Ender 3 V3 SE — Settings Guide

The Bambu Lab A1 is a fast, reliable direct drive FDM printer that handles most filaments with minimal tuning. Its all-metal hotend reaches 300°C, supporting everything from PLA to basic Nylon. The direct drive extruder means short retraction distances (0.5-1.5mm) and excellent performance with flexible filaments like TPU.

Key Things to Know

Speed: The V3 SE handles 60-100mm/s comfortably. Start at 60mm/s and increase gradually. The direct drive extruder handles speed changes better than the V2's Bowden setup.

Direct drive advantage: Unlike the older V2, the V3 SE has direct drive which means better retraction, easier TPU printing, and fewer stringing issues. Retraction distance should be 0.8-1.5mm — much shorter than Bowden.

Retraction: Direct drive means very short retraction — typically 0.5-1.0mm. If you see stringing, increase by 0.2mm at a time. Don't go above 2mm or you risk heat creep and jams.

Frequently Asked Questions

What temperature should I print PLA on the Ender 3 V3 SE?
Start at 205°C nozzle and 60°C bed. The Sprite extruder runs well at 200-215°C for PLA.
What retraction settings should I use on the V3 SE?
Start at 1.0mm retraction and 30mm/s speed. The Sprite direct drive extruder needs much less retraction than the V2's Bowden setup. Don't exceed 2mm.
Can the Ender 3 V3 SE print ABS?
Yes, but the stock hotend maxes at ~260°C and the printer is open-frame, so you need an enclosure for ABS. Set nozzle to 240°C, bed to 100°C, fan off. Works well with an enclosure.
What slicer should I use with the Ender 3 V3 SE?
Creality Print is the official slicer with built-in V3 SE profiles. Cura also has good Ender 3 V3 SE support. PrusaSlicer and OrcaSlicer work well with manual profile setup.
Can the V3 SE print TPU / flexible filament?
Yes — the Sprite direct drive handles TPU much better than the older V2. Print at 220°C, 50°C bed, 25mm/s speed, with 0.3-0.5mm retraction. One of the best budget printers for flexible filaments.
