Elegoo Neptune 4 — Settings Guide

The Bambu Lab A1 is a fast, reliable direct drive FDM printer that handles most filaments with minimal tuning. Its all-metal hotend reaches 300°C, supporting everything from PLA to basic Nylon. The direct drive extruder means short retraction distances (0.5-1.5mm) and excellent performance with flexible filaments like TPU.

Key Things to Know

Speed: Klipper enables speeds up to 500mm/s, but start at 80-100mm/s for quality. The pressure advance feature reduces artefacts at higher speeds. Tune your pressure advance value for each filament.

Klipper firmware: The Neptune 4 runs Klipper natively, giving access to pressure advance, input shaping, and web-based control via Fluidd. These features significantly improve print quality at higher speeds.

Retraction: Direct drive means very short retraction — typically 0.5-1.0mm. If you see stringing, increase by 0.2mm at a time. Don't go above 2mm or you risk heat creep and jams.

Frequently Asked Questions

What temperature should I print PLA on the Elegoo Neptune 4?
Start at 210°C nozzle and 55°C bed. Start at 210°C nozzle and 55°C bed. The Neptune 4's fast printing benefits from slightly higher temps. Adjust based on your specific PLA brand.
What retraction settings should I use on the Neptune 4?
Start at 0.8mm retraction distance and 30mm/s retraction speed. Start at 0.8mm retraction and 30mm/s speed. The direct drive extruder needs minimal retraction. With Klipper, also tune pressure advance (start at 0.04 for PLA) to reduce oozing.
Can the Elegoo Neptune 4 print ABS?
Yes, but the Neptune 4 is open-frame so ABS needs an enclosure. The all-metal hotend handles ABS temperatures well. Set nozzle to 245°C, bed to 100°C, fan off. An enclosure is essential for reliable ABS.
What slicer should I use with the Neptune 4?
Cura is the most popular choice with good Neptune 4 profiles available. OrcaSlicer is excellent for Klipper printers. The bundled Elegoo Cura fork works out of the box. All three support Klipper features.
Can the Neptune 4 print TPU / flexible filament?
Yes — the direct drive extruder handles TPU well. Print at 220-230°C, 50°C bed, 25mm/s, minimal retraction. Disable pressure advance for TPU as it can cause under-extrusion with flexible filaments.
